Who We Are

Executive Board Members

Paula Roybal Sánchez (President)
I joined the LACC in March of 2009.  As a home economist with the Los Alamos Cooperative Extension Service, I’m always looking at ways to network and expand education efforts to more members of our community thus improving the quality of life of our residents.  Both the LACC and the Los Alamos Cooperative Extension Service have a common goal of providing awareness and preventive education on health issues facing our community.

I bring to the Council a variety of skills including the teaching of nutrition and health related topics, organizing events and activities and the ability to work with diverse clientele in non-traditional settings.  I hope to use these skills to assist the Council in their mission.

Bernice Williams (Vice-President)

Cancer Survivor!

I joined LACC because of a desire to help others who are going through cancer; wanting to learn more about the resources we have available and because I enjoy sharing the experiences and lessons that having cancer has provided me. My current goal is to achieve a clearer vision of how to help this community that I grew up in and love. I am grateful to be involved with LACC; excited about our new oncologist Dr. Jan Merin and appreciative that we have LAMC so close. Also, there are a lot of resouces to help us out, and thanks to Kay Kerbyson our website can help you find many of them.

Bill Whitty (Treasurer)

I became part of the LACC in 2001 after Dr Linnebur asked me to join. As an accountant, I have been able to support the LACC as their treasurer. My special area of interest is in expanding the educational opportunities we offer to those in Los Alamos affected by cancer.

Judy Lovejoy RN (Secretary)

In 1987, my spouse was diagnosed with cancer, and as a registered nurse, I joined the LACC in 1998 because it applied to both my personal and professional life. As a long time resident of Los Alamos (16 years), my aim is to educate our community about cancer and the different services that are available locally.

Board Members

Dr A. Carolyn Linnebur, Cardiology, Internal Medicine

As a physician with Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico, I specialize in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and have been practicing in northern New Mexico since 1974. I received my medical degree from the University of Michigan. My Echocardiography laboratory received the prestigious ICAEL accreditation. In my spare time, I am a proud member of the LACC, and, outside of my professional field, enjoy raising Alaskan Malamutes, being a master gardener and long distance cycling. I joined LACC as its mission is education and I believe that is what we are providing in this great all volunteer organization.

Dr Kathryn Zerback, M.D.

As a native New Mexican, I am thrilled to be back in my home state after 18 years of practice in nearby El Paso, TX.  A graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, I am Board Certified in Surgery, but have specialized in treating breast cancer throughout my career.  Having served on committees and as a board member for the Cancer Consortium, Rio Grande Cancer Coalition, American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, I am both honored and delighted to be able to join the LACC and serve the cancer survivors of Los Alamos.

Menolda Bakker

Cancer survivor!

I joined the LACC in November of 2008 to show my thankfulness and appreciation for the wonderful treatment and all the support I got here in Los Alamso during and after my diagnosis
with cancer. It saved my life and I would like to give back to others! One of my main concerns
is to help cancer patients to keep their strength and flexibility through healthy body exercise. Besides that, I would like to find ways for patients in our area to help lift mental stress by expressing their concerns through art therapy. Being a milliner, I can also make comfortable, good looking head wear for
cancer patients who often have to face hair loss during and after treatment.

Ev Griggs (LAMC Auxilliary Liaison)

Cancer Survivor!

I joined the LACC Board in Spring 2010. I am the liaison for the Auxilliary Women's Group. Pooling the resources of this group of volunteers, we can help with seminars and other educational events.I believe that gettting information out to cancer patients is extremely important. Being a cancer survivor is helpful for those who have cancer now, Working in the Chemo Lab at the LAMC allows me to work with patients in a way that I know helps. By listening and showing them that people do survive cancer I can bring them hope and comfort.

Breast Cancer Survivor!

I joined the LACC in January 2011 to learn about the organization and what it’s all about. I want to bridge the connection between LACC and the rest of New Mexico’s cancer organizations and to ensure the LACC is in the New Mexico cancer network, as a benefit to Los Alamos cancer patients and survivors, and to increase awareness of this organization in Northern New Mexico. I am associated with the following cancer organizations/events: Program Manager: "Healthy Wings: The Anti-Cancer Initiative" – To educate, inform, support, and navigate cancer patients, survivors, and their families. Member – The New Mexico Cancer Council and for two years, I was on the Executive Committee. Subcommittee membership includes: Survivorship and Native American Working Groups. I organized the first cancer support group in Santa Clara Pueblo: Santa Clara Pueblo Cancer Awareness and Support Group. Organizing member: Native Family Cancer Circle; this is a new organization that will help cancer survivors and their families through the cancer experience, especially Native American families. I also organize the Breast Cancer Awareness Month exhibit at LANL: a month-long exhibit/display of cancer information, testimonials, and survivorship, held in October. Finally, I have completed Peer, One-on-One, and Support Group Training. I have attended, and continue to attend, various local, national, and international cancer related conferences and workshops.

Tina V. Kelley

I joined the LACC Board in November 2010. As someone who takes care of patients daily, many of whom have, or have had, cancer, I felt it was worthwhile to support the LACC mission. I especially liked the fact LACC looks at all options for bringing information and opportunities to patients. I want to be supportive to people and their struggles and to be a part of something that supports that. I have been in the medical field for 28 years and I have been touched by many people and their struggles before, during and after their battle with cancer.

Kay Kerbyson Ph.D

Cancer Thrivor!
In 2005, my husband was diagnosed with cancer. It woke me up to the reality that no one, no matter what their age or general health, is immune from cancer. In 2006, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and am continuing to fight it. Since then, I have made it my mission to educate women about this deadly disease and how to identify it early. I am Mom to twins Abby and Hannah and have been a proud member of the LACC since Dec '07. By being a Member, and now Associate Member, I have found a channel to both educate Los Alamos about cancer and provide support to those in the community who are dealing with all types of cancer.
