Support Groups and Individual Assistance

 

CancerSupport Los Alamos, LAMC Conference Room, 2nd floor. Ask at Reception for directions.

Survivor Group every first Monday of the month, 11.30am-1pm in the LAMC conference room. Caregiver Support Group every 3rd Monday of the month, same time and place.  Contact Bernice for info at 690 1245, or mail Bernice@losalamoscounciloncancer.org. Click here for more info.

 

The Cancer Corner, sponsored by LACC, ACS and LAMC

Try on and take free wigs, hats and scarves. Learn about programs, and help yourself to literature. The Cancer Corner is open every Thursday from 10:00 am until Noon or Tel 661 9510 for an appointment. Located near the old ER in the Los Alamos Medical Center.

 

Ovarian Cancer TOGETHER! www.ovariancancertogether.org

An informal circle of friends in Los Alamos and New Mexico who have all been through the same experience.

Stephen Leaders

The Bethlehem Lutheran Church has Stephen Leaders available to help those of any denomination or religious belief, offering confidential help, friendship and support during difficult times. Call 505-662-5151 for information.

Cancer Services of NM Glorieta Cancer Retreat

Held in Spring and Fall the retreat offers a weekend of relaxation, information and rejuvantion free of charge in a beautiful setting. Tel 505/259-9583 or go to www.cancerservicesNM.org

 

Free Horse Riding

Suzanna Nestor at the Overland Ranch in Taos offers short and long trails or just spending time with horses at her ranch free of charge for cancer patients and survivors. Call Susanna at 575/776-8598.

Food Services

 

Self Help

Provides one time financial assistance for food, medicine etc.

 

Local Churches

Many local churches have groups of volunteers who are happy to provide food, or fetch groceries for those in need. Contact your local church.

 

Transportation Help

 

Lion's Help Transportation Program

Voluntary help with transportation for parients undergoing tretament in Los Alamos, Santa Fe and Abuquerque. Call 505/672-3618 or 505/661-8037 for information.

 

Safe Ride

Provides non-emergency medical transportation. 24 hours notice is needed.

Atomic City Dial-a-Ride

Availble to those with a documented disability, or seniors. Tel 661-RIDE between 7.30am and 4.00pm up to 3 days in advance to reserve a ride.

Holds leaflets and information about many types of cancer and support services.

 

Los Alamos Public Library

Has a vast array of bools on cancer and a cancer information stand with free leaflets.

 

Family Strengths Network

Help for families going through cancer. Has a lending library of books on issues concerning cancer and the family, and holds occasional seminars on Cancer in the Family.

 

Cancer Services of New Mexico LIPA Program

Legal, insurance and paperwork assistance free of charge.
